Make your voice heard

Believe it or not, the planning of the 36th ECNP Congress in Barcelona and online, on 7-10 October 2023, is starting already now. That means that it is time for you to submit proposals for scientific symposia, educational update sessions or other formats, such as a panel discussion, a debate, campfire session or case report. We welcome all proposals within applied and translational neuroscience, from various disciplines, also including neurology and psychology. Please note that you should not beforehand ensure acceptance from suggested speakers; these will be invited directly by the Scientific Programme Committee, in case your proposed session is selected. You can read more and upload suggestions before 2 March 2022 here.

Let me give you a quick update on our work in the ECNP Innovation Task Force, led by President-Elect Martien Kas. After initial discussion with the ECNP Executive Committee in December, we have defined our key stakeholders and asked ourselves where ECNP is uniquely positioned to fill important gaps. I have also within the last months had conversations with the chairs of the European Psychiatric Association (EPA), the European Academy of Neurology (EAN), the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS), and with our sister colleges CINP, ACNP, and AsCNP, to discuss how we can collaborate in the future, and these discussions have also clarified where we stand.

This month the Task Force has a series of interesting individual conversations with representatives from the EMA, FDA, and the industry. We are also debating the best format in which ECNP can continue to provide training and organise activities in applied neuroscience, for Early Career Scientists as well as mid-career and more senior colleagues.

In a month from now, when the ECNP Executive Committee gather in conjunction with the ECNP Workshop and the New Frontiers Meeting in Nice, we will have a discussion about how to transform the important work of the Innovation Task Force into some tangible goals and devise a roadmap for implementation of the strategy which aims to keep ECNP at the forefront.

If you have any suggestions for how ECNP can prepare for the future and continue to play a key role within applied neuroscience, do not hesitate to let us know. We would love to hear from you, both when it comes to inputs to our congress, but also to how ECNP can serve our community throughout the rest of the year.

Feel free to contact me by reply e-mail.
